Spring and Summer 2018 Roundup

Dear YFAMily,

We hope you have been having a fabulous summer! It may have been awhile since you’ve heard from us, but have we been snoozing through spring and summer? Heaven no! We’re on a mission to bring yoga to e v e r y o n e. We’ll rest in savasna!

Here’s a snapshot of our summer:

The Human Race!

In May, the YFAM team engaged in their first large-scale fundraising effort by participating in The Human Race. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who contributed to our very successful run! All of the contributions made - from big to small gifts, to gifts of time, to the gift of moral support - each and every bit made an impact and made the event and campaign an incredible success. Yoga For All Movement ended up raising $9,000. Not only that, but Yoga For All Movement won the esteemed Rookie of The Year Award.

We will be able to provide yoga props for our yoga programs, develop trauma informed yoga resources and trainings for teachers and YFAM volunteers, and we will be able to support the development of additional programs at Sequoia School, Salinas Valley State Prison, Heritage Home and Walnut Avenue Women’s and Family Center.

Our First Trauma Informed Yoga Teacher Training with Connection Coalition

We had an amazing soul NURTURING, heart OPENING & mind CONNECTING weekend. We can't thank Connection Coalition enough for joining us under the sun to support the expansion of trauma informed yoga services in Santa Cruz County, the Central Coast, and beyond! This is what community looks like.

Pay It Forward for Hug It Forward

We teamed up with Hug it Forward, a 501c3 organization that is ensuring no child goes without equitable access to education in Guatemala. They do this by building schools out of recycled bottles. So, in addition to making sure there's a place for every child in the classroom, they're also promoting environmental sustainability. Yoga For All Movement hosted a spring event that included yoga, art, picnicking, and frolicking.

Open Streets Watsonville

Watsonville’s annual street festival did not go yoga-less. Yoga for All Movement was there offering free yoga and passing out information on donation-based community classes.

#YogaWithUs Event for Monarch Services

Yoga For All Movement offered yoga on Capitola Beach raising funds for Monarch Services, an organization that BURNS for safety, thriving, equity and the capacity to heal. This rise and shine yoga event to support a cause that's availing support in all its forms to sexual assault and human trafficking survivors. In response to the #metoomovement, #YogawithUs is about uniting together to raise awareness around the realities of this human rights issue in our own community and a call to action to be apart of the solution to end violence forever. We’ve called on our community partners to be allies in our pursuit for safe and trauma-informed yoga for all. As a call to action: please take the time to read and distribute our safety statement by clicking here.

Yoga Church Take Over

We hosted night of juicy and accessible yoga asana, Dharma, live music, community, truth bombs, and, of course, yoga equity, dignity, justice and full potential for ALL. While Yoga Church founder and YFAM board member Hannah Muse is off bringing yoga to the world, we took over the class for one week raising funds to go towards Yoga For All Movement programs in our community.

Yoga For All Movement Pop Up Yoga at Shake the Square

We collaborated with the Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History for pop-up yoga that spreads our visions for equity, justice and oneness for all. We liked it so much, we’re doing it again in September. Stay tuned and continue to visit: www.santacruzmah.org for more Shake the Square activities.

Hotel Paradox Classes!

Last but certainly not least, every Sunday 9:30-10:30 am, our team of teachers are serving up yoga poolside (unless it’s cold, then we go inside) at Hotel Paradox. Get your yoga on for free. Donations gratefully accepted!

So yeah, we’ve been busy and don’t worry we’re not losing momentum. We continue to bring yoga to our program sites as well as hosting exciting events like the ones above.

See you on the mat!
